Vending at Pike Place Market

A few weeks ago, I had the incredible opportunity to vend at Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market. For seven days, my booth found its home inside the bustling arcade, surrounded by fresh-caught seafood, the scent of fresh flowers, and the vibrant energy of visitors from all corners of the globe. It was an unforgettable experience that left me both exhilarated and deeply grateful.

Here's a short video recap:

The Magic of the Arcade

Nestled among other talented artisans and vendors, my booth was right in the middle of it all. Every morning, I open up my shop with my display of art prints, hand-painted hats, and stationery, watching the arcade come to life as people pass by in the morning. There was something so special about being part of a space that’s been a cornerstone of Seattle culture for over a century.

The foot traffic was great and so were the conversations. People from all walks of life stopped by my booth—locals on their weekly market run, tourists eager to take a piece of Seattle home, and fellow artists curious about my process. Each interaction was a reminder of why I create: to connect, to inspire, and to bring a little beauty into the everyday.

Connecting with the World

One of the most thrilling aspects of vending at Pike Place Market was meeting customers from around the world. In a single afternoon, I might chat with someone from Alabama, a couple from France, and a family visiting from Wisconsin. It was fun learning about peoples' reasons why they're visiting Pike and how our paths were able to cross.

What moved me most was the genuine admiration people showed for my work. I watched as customers’ eyes lit up at the sight of a painting or a hand-painted hat that resonated with them. Some even shared their personal connections to the scenes I’d painted—a memory of hiking in the Pacific Northwest or a love for the wildflowers I’d depicted. Knowing that my art sparked joy or nostalgia for someone else was incredibly rewarding.

The Journey of My Art

The thought of my creations finding homes around the globe filled me with a unique kind of joy. As I wrapped up each purchase, I couldn’t help but imagine where my art was headed. A postcard traveling to Europe, a hat worn on adventures in California, or a print hanging on a wall in a cozy apartment in Chicago—it’s thrilling to think that pieces of my heart and creativity are now part of so many different lives.

This week reminded me of the beautiful ripple effect art can have. It’s not just about creating something; it’s about the stories that unfold when it leaves your hands. Each piece carries a little bit of my journey, and now, it becomes part of someone else’s.

Gratitude and Growth

As the week came to a close, I felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Vending at Pike Place Market was more than just a chance to sell my work; it was an opportunity to grow as an artist and a person. I learned so much about connecting with people, presenting my work, and embracing the unexpected moments that make this journey so worthwhile.

I’m immensely grateful to everyone who stopped by my booth, whether they left with a piece of art or simply a kind word. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of creativity to bring people together, and I’m excited to carry these memories and lessons into my future endeavors.

Here’s to more adventures, more connections, and more art finding its way into the world.

Until next time, stay colorful.
